Laura LeMond is the owner and cofounder of Mosaic Weighted Blankets.
Laura is a native Austinite and a graduate of The University of Texas at Austin. After years of trying to identify a solution to calm her system, in 2010 she began to discuss with her girlfriends a way to help herself and others.
Laura was born 8 weeks early, weighing 4 lbs and was given blood transfusions at birth, she is a fraternal twin. Her mother would put her to sleep in the crib with her twin sister and they would nestle up together before falling asleep. This is also called the womb sensation, which the weighted blanket provides for you by adding even pressure across the body.
Looking back, I was always seeking sensory input as a child and teen. When I was in college, I piled my college textbooks on my legs to go to sleep. After I had my first child, I engineered with a blanket with small sandbags put in it to create weight. The next step was finding the poly pellets to evenly weight the blanket and Mosaic Weighted Blankets was born. I have total empathy for my customers. I have panic disorder/anxiety and I know what it feels like to need to be able to calm down. As a child, I had Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD) and Attention Deficit (ADD). I had to wear 100% cotton clothes (when I was in school polyester was the thing). I was a picky eater, very musical and loved to read. Loud noises still freak me out & I have strong likes and dislikes. I have never liked pink.
In school, I had a messy desk and bad handwriting, but in many ways excelled at academics. I was very focused then (and now) on any subject that I find interesting to the exclusion of other things. If ADD or SPD had been discovered back then, I would have been a classic case.

Once you have one, you will see how you will naturally gravitate to it for longer and better sleep, or to cuddle up with after a stressful day. Lower your cortisol (stress hormones) and raise serotonin levels by getting a weighted blanket, to see how good it will make you feel.
